Soar into Spring is what Flagstaff calls their annual Kite Festival at Foxglenn Park. Being an employee of the city (I work at the Flagstaff Aquaplex, a city operated recreation center for those of you who don’t know), I was called upon to help run the high flying event this past Saturday, May 12. I guess you could say it was my first taste into this event planning business (although it didn’t involve Peak Events I’m sorry to say! And I was just a mere pawn in the scheme of things).
The festivities started for the people of Flagstaff and other visitors at noon, my day however, started at 7:30 in the morning. Tents had to be erected, tables situated and decorated, and carnival games, potato sack races and hula hoops set up. And yet, before we’d even gotten the arts and crafts put out people started arriving, attracted, I’m sure, by the colorful flags we’d lined all along the softball field fences.
From bouncy houses to face painting, chicken toss to mini Frisbee golf, from vendors ranging from Out of Africa to local radio stations Foxglenn park was hopping with people. Some were there for the festivities we were providing for them, some were there just to fly a kite! The weather was perfect for it and kites of all kinds peppered the sky. I even saw an Angry Birds kite!
I was personally helping run the parking lot and met people of all ages. We were there to celebrate the arrival of spring after all, and that’s something the young and old can appreciate, I think! Not to mention the abundance of dogs! I would have brought my own if I thought they wouldn’t go after every kite they saw! but I think they would’ve snagged at least one or two so my pooches had to stay home… Anyways, I had a blast participating in and helping with the festivities. If you were there, I’m sure you saw me (you just didn’t know it!). I know I’m thankful spring is here, it’s finally kite season, creek season, and the time for family outings (including the pets!) to the park. Not to mention time to get Peak Events involved and get your party on! :]
Have a lovely week,
Michelle
