Going into the Star Party, I didn’t have any idea what to expect. This was my first event with Peak Events and I didn’t really know much about it. We started out at the front tent, signing in volunteers and astronomers and assigning them their spot along the path. We spent a few hours setting up, and then finally, the doors were open. As people came in, we greeted them and handed them a red flashlight (red so that it didn’t interfere with being able to see the stars). While one of us was doing that, the other was using the clicker to count how many people came in (my personal favorite job!) It was very interesting to see how the amount of people who came increased quite a bit each night! Once it got dark, we had to walk along the long, windy path and leave tea lights along the trail so that everyone could make their way back to the main path. This proved to be a bit more tedious than I expected because the astronomers were spread out pretty far back on the path! In the end, we had to bring everything back to the front so we could break it all down. Overall, it was a very interesting and different event to work. Of course, working with all the Peak Events girls made it fun! Plus, who would complain about getting to stargaze all night while working? I’m very excited to be able to do this event next year!
